Types of Awards and Letter Writing Info

If you feel that your troop's leader or co-leader deserves the Outstanding Leader Award, then you need to fill out the paperwork and turn it into the Recognitions Committee before November 15. See the "forms" link for the paperwork.

In addition to the annual awards, there are several pins and awards that you should have based on the amount of training you have taken and the time you have served.

After you have completed the four basic training classes including Leader Orientation, Youth Protection, Adult Leadership and Program Level Basics, you should receive your Tanasi Trained Pin.

In addition, if you have taken both Intro to Outdoors and Basic Outdoor Skills, and you have been trained in CPR/First Aid, then you are eligible for your Leadership Development Pin. You can also be eligible for this pin if you haven't taken this additional training, but you have recruited someone in you troop to take the training.

The Leadership Development Pin also has leaves that attach to the pin that represent additional hours that you have spent training. Green leaves are 10 hours and Silver leaves are 50 hours. This training is in addition to the training required for the pin itself and you can only count the training time spent learning a new skill or new information about your skills.

Some examples of what you can and cannot count toward leaves are following:

MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS KEEP AN ACCURATE UPDATED TRAINING CARD!! IT'S YOUR ONLY PROOF. COUNCIL RECORDS ARE OFTEN WRONG!

Another pin that you may be eligible for is the Years of Service Pin. You receive these every 5 years for the number of years you have been registered as an adult Girl Scout.

If you think you are eligible for any of these and have not received them, you can contact the committee or call the council Office.

For more information on this, you can look in your Volunteer Resource Guide.
